Bear Roots Farm is located at 175 Snowbridge Road in South Barre, Vermont, just four miles off of Interstate 89. The 87-acre hill farm is diverse with 50 acres of open crop land, 25 acres of cedar forest, a unique mix of pasture, and a homestead that houses all of the infrastructure.
Jon and Karin, a husband and wife team, purchased the farm in 2014 through the Vermont Land Trust's Farm Access Program. Through the VLT the farm is forever conserved and protected from development.
Bear Roots Farm is proud to serve a growing year-round CSA, attend local Farmers Markets, and provide vegetables to some of the areas most popular restaurants.
The farm is certified organic, which means it meets all of the requirements set forth by the USDA and Vermont Organic Farmers' Association. Jon and Karin put a large emphasis on soil health and treating pests and disease in a holistic manner. For more details on what specific practices are used please visit the "Growing Practices" portion of the site.
Karin, the office manager, harvester, and CSA coordinator, is committed to sharing the highest quality vegetables with the community. When she isn’t farming, you can find her exploring the woods with her furry-dog companion, riding horses, or playing with the many farm animals at Bear Roots.
Jon, jack-of-all-trades and vegetable grower, is passionate about soil, plant health, and poultry. When Jon isn’t farming you can find him on the soccer field, inventing something new, or cooking in the kitchen.
